Just alerting you that this CD on the Cafe del Mar label is in fact just a re-packaging (for European market?) of Paul Schwartz' 'Aria,' which came out in '97. You may already have it, which is why I rate it as just 4 stars for the apparent deception. Aria is Paul Schwartz and Mario Grigorov. This is a project attempting mixing classical music snippets of opera songs with contemporary sounds and beats. Catalog number TCD 4009 on spine. Catalog number TCD-4009 inside booklet. Aria is a musical project of the producer Paul Schwartz. It mixes famous operatic pieces with ambient and upbeat music.

Paul Schwartz (born 1956) is an American record producer, composer, arranger, conductor, and pianist.^[1] the basic elements of which are voice, piano, violin, and electronic samples. He has collaborated with vocalists Lisbeth Scott and Rebecca Luker, performing on many songs.

Schwartz was born in New York City, the son of composer/producer Arthur Schwartz and actress/dancer Mary Schwartz,^[2] and he is the half-brother of radio personality/sometime musician Jonathan Schwartz.

Paul studied composition at the Royal College of Music in London. He has conducted the pit orchestras of Broadway shows (such as The Phantom of the Opera).^[3] He has worked with André Previn, composed and recorded with Carlos Santana and David Foster, and written for Josh Groban.^[4]

Ambient composers Paul Schwartz and Mario Grigorov add their electronic melodies to selected opera arias on this album. Popular melodies from Carmen, Madame Butterfly, The Magic Flute, Dido, Aeneas, and more are used here. The final effect is striking, though these classic themes may be enhancing the Schwartz- Grigonoz creations more than they are helping the arias. A product of renowned Abbey Road Studio #1, all the operatic vocals were recorded live in this acoustically superb environment. This shows the creator's respect for the time-tested gems they are setting. It comes as no surprise that Schwartz was Andre Previn's assistant conductor with the Pittsburgh Symphony and musical director for Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phanton of the Opera. Grigorov is a pianist and composer who is as comfortable in jazz and classical music as is in rock and electronica. Aria is sublime and rewarding.
